Incentive Measures for Agrobiodiversity Conservation and Use

The incentives are recognized recently as the important measures for the conservation and sustainable use of agrobiodiversity. Incentives and incentive measures are well recognized by the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD), which encourages all Contracting Parties to adopt economically and socially sound measures that act as incentives for the conservation and sustainable use of component of biological diversity (CBD 1992). Incentives play critical role in the conservation and sustainable use of the agrobiodiversity by farmers, plant breeders and other stakeholders. This paper presents some of the evidence and good practices of direct and indirect incentives measures developed and applied in Nepal for the conservation and sustainable use of agrobiodiversity in Nepal.
