Field Guide for Farmer Field Schools on Nutrition and Local Food Plants

This document aims at providing a guideline for the development of farmer field school (FFS) curricula on Nutrition and Local Food Plants with a gender approach, which is part of the SD=HS program. The FFS on Nutrition and Local Food Plants aims at contributing to the SD=HS objective on improving the quality and diversity of the diet, and reducing the length and severity of the food scarcity season. This document starts with an explanation of the FFS approach, followed by an introduction to the main concepts and topics related to nutrition, local food plants and gender. Then, the two levels in the FFS implementation process are elaborated: the first one is the preparatory work and capacity building at the level of the implementing organization; the second one regards FFS implementation at the community level. This guide provides a basket of activities that can be implemented, from which trainers and FFS participants may select most relevant and attractive ones.
