Women seed saver Uganda
This video, produced by the Alliance for Food Sovereignty (AFSA) shows the important role of women in saving seeds and therefore in eradicating hunger. As governments across Africa develop laws to deny farmers’ rights to exchange and sell local seeds, women are leading the fight to protect Africa’s sacred biodiversity. Seeds are at the heart of agroecological food systems, adapting to local environments, cultures and tastes. It is paramount to protect these vital varieties to safeguard African food systems, building on the rich history of farmers' indigenous knowledge.
