The Molecular Maize Atlas Encourages Genetic Diversity

The International Maize and Wheat Development Center (CIMMYT) has the largest and most diverse publicly available maize collections in the world. However, all these resources are unlikely to be used by breeders without a proper characterization. To combat this, the CIMMYT initiative "Seeds of Discovery" (SeeD) decided to work on a labeling process for the germplasm bank: the Molecular Maize Atlas. This article presents some of the benefits of this platform for the researchers, breeders and farmers.
