Seeds of Discovery: Exploring native maize for food security
As climate change increases the formation and spread of crop pests and diseases, Seeds of Discovery, a initiative from the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), is exploring native varieties of maize for the qualities and traits that can be used as building blocks for stronger and resistant crops. Family farmers in Mexico are some of the first to benefit from this work as their crops struggle with a deadly maize disease, the Tar Spot Complex disease, threatening their food security.
